The quality of your breath is directly linked to the quality of your life. We take over 17,000 breaths a day, yet breathing is an activity most of us don’t think about
Changing the way we breathe creates in physiological changes in the body. When we are stressed, we tend to take more rapid and shallow breaths. Taking deep, belly to chest breaths helps to calm the nervous system and restore a sense of presence. That is why yoga and meditation are such powerful stress-reduction techniques.
Breathwork takes this healing practice one step further.
During a breathwork session, your practitoner guides you through the process of breathing more fully, exploring the physical sensations you can feel in your body and the deeper emotions stored underneath.
Breathing deeper into each feeling and observing what happens with curiosity allows the emotion to just be – a practice we often don’t give space or time to in our lives.
This technique, called ‘connected breathing’, will help you release the emotional energy that has been keeping you stuck in the past, or preventing you from taking action.
Finally processing those unresolved emotions we are too ashamed or afraid to explore is the greatest gift you will give yourself. You will gain clarity about the story you are unconsciously telling yourself and how this is holding you back.
Breathwork helps you to achieve a greater sense of self-awareness, an increased capacity for self-healing, and overall improvement in mental, physical, and spiritual wellbeing.
That is the power of breathing.
